From June 27 to July 31, during the extraordinary uncovering of the Floor of the Siena Cathedral, it will be possible to visit the Cathedral and admire its magnificent “marble carpet”, which reflects five hundred years of artistic, cultural and religious history of the city, at the first light of day.
The clavigero: the “awaking” of Siena Cathedral is, in fact, one of the special cultural experiences promoted by Opera della Metropolitana and organized by Opera Laboratori that will lead visitors, for a maximum of 18 people, to discover this masterpiece. From Tuesday to Friday for twenty days it will be possible to take part in an exclusive tour, starting at 7.15 am until 8.45 am, following the opening, the switching on of the lights, the organization and the preparation for the welcome together with those who work daily to “awaken” the Cathedral. When the first lights of the day stand out on the horizon, the majestic monumental complex of the Duomo di Siena will welcome visitors enchanted by the polychrome marble façade that is “tinged” by the arrival of the sun’s rays: the serene beginning of a unique day.
The keyholder will begin his work and with each turn of the key, doors will open that reveal centuries of history and art in their most authentic form. In silence, far from haste and chaos, it will be possible to discover the masterpieces kept in the Piccolomini Library and witness breathtaking moments in the elevated path of the attics of the Temple with the opening of the Gate of Heaven. A special visit that will allow you to immerse yourself in the spiritual atmosphere of the Siena Cathedral and admire its ancient treasures, the fruit of centuries of wisdom, art and faith. At the end, all participants will be offered a breakfast in Piazza San Giovanni.
